Waste disposal methods are not the same across all parts of Korea. Please refer to the Seoul Metropolitan Government's guidance, but check the actual discharge day, time, location, and bag type with the borough you live in and the building rules. If you apply the same method used in your previous neighborhood, it may not be collected. It is convenient to receive a discharge notice from the management office or landlord on the first day you move in.
Cleaning up household waste
Start by creating a space to separate general waste, food, and recyclables. Before buying pay-as-you-go bags, check the area and purpose of use. Food collection methods may vary, such as bags or dedicated containers, so please check the instructions for your apartment complex. If you are unsure about which ingredients are considered food, it is best to look for them in local guides.
Disposal of recyclables
Empty the contents, reduce contamination, and sort by material. Even if they look like paper or plastic, composite materials or heavily contaminated items may require different disposal methods. Please check the product label and regional separate disposal instructions, and if you are not sure about the item, please show a photo and inquire.
When throwing away furniture
For large items such as desks and mattresses, check the large waste report, fees, and designated location before leaving them in the general disposal area. Please make a schedule in advance as reception or collection may not be available immediately on the moving day. Store used items to be shared so that they do not block the common passageway until the person who will take them is confirmed. If you save a photo of the building's notice, it is easy to check it again the next time you discharge.
