Even if transportation cards have similar names, the region of use and charging/refund methods may be different. The Korea Tourism Organization's transportation card guide introduces several options, including T-money, EZL, WOWPASS, and the Climate Card. Flat-rate plans don't offer unlimited use in all cities and on all modes of transportation, so check your travel route and coverage first.
Select by schedule
Write down whether you mainly travel within Seoul, travel to other cities, or include the airport section. Please check the official description to see if the route and section you will actually use are included in the product. Calculating roughly the number of days you will travel and the number of rides will make this easier to judge than simply buying a popular card.
Ask questions before purchasing
Distinguish between card price and recharge balance, and check where and with what payment method you can recharge. If it is a mobile phone product, check whether it supports your device and operating system. Refunds of remaining balance and refunds of card costs may have different conditions, so it is a good idea to find out where they are processed before leaving the country.
Check during use
Tag the boarding and alighting terminal in the required manner, and if an error occurs, contact a station attendant or driver. You can reduce confusion by pulling out only one card and using it instead of putting multiple cards on top of each other. Please check for specific discounts or transfer conditions for each route or product, and do not assume that long-distance train tickets are covered with a general transportation card. Prices and ranges are subject to change and are therefore based on official guidance from the date of purchase.
