According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor's official portal, Korea's minimum wage for 2026 is KRW 10,320 per hour. It applies from January 1 through December 31, 2026. The stated monthly equivalent of KRW 2,156,880 is based on 209 hours per month. This does not mean that every part-time worker must receive that monthly amount.
Comparing job advertisements
First distinguish hourly pay from monthly pay. For monthly pay, check the agreed working hours and wage components. The 209-hour monthly example reflects a 40-hour working week plus 8 hours of paid weekly rest. Check your own schedule and paid-time conditions before comparing your pay; simply dividing monthly pay by days worked can be misleading.
Data required before calculation
Prepare contracts, time sheets, actual attendance records, and pay stubs. You need to distinguish between base salary, allowances, and deductions, and check which items are included in the minimum wage comparison. If your employer explains exceptions to your training or work arrangements, seek formal advice to confirm whether the requirements actually apply to you.
Questions during consultation
Presenting data such as “This is my contract time and this is the statement item. What amount and time should I compare based on?” will help in an accurate review. Don't think that you can arbitrarily lower your legal standards just because you are a foreigner. When checking the recruitment conditions for next year, you should not use the 2026 numbers in this article but check the notice for that year again.
